Leah Thulin - Downers Grove
We started looking in the Western Suburbs when we were ready to move out of the city. I found a house in Downers Grove online and made an appointment with a realtor. I drove down the street, stopped in-front of the house, called my husband and told him to leave work immediately that I found our house. He was at the front door in 30 minutes. We put an offer in the next day! We fell in-love with the house, the street, the town. 5 kids and a couple of dogs later - we can’t imagine raising our kids anywhere else.

What are your three favorite things about the town?
1. The people!
2. The downtown area
3. The parks

What do you like to do with your family in your town?
Our family of spends lots of time at the fabulous parks in Downers Grove. We can hit 3 parks in 2 miles! One of our favorite things to do is park hop on summer days on our bikes. The days alway end with a trip to Everyday’s a Sundae for ice-cream.

What do you like to do with your significant other in your town?
My husband and I try and go out every week for date night. Some weeks it’s impossible but most weeks we are able to pull off a quick dinner and a glass (bottle) of wine. We choose Sushi House every time - Wild Roll with soy paper & Chicago Fire are the best!

What are your thoughts about the schools in your town?
The schools are amazing. Our teachers are smart, kind and caring. But what I appreciate the most is the fact that they truly know & love your children! There is something different about our staff: the superintendents, the office staff, teachers, custodians…they play a huge roll in the dynamic of our town.

What amenities or activities do you appreciate the most?
Our kids are involved in lots of sports: soccer, baseball, basketball, volleyball, gymnastics and dance. Their activities allow us to spend an awful lot of time at the Downers Grove Recreational Center, McCullum Park and Doerhoffer Park for sports. The Park and Rec division of the town is top notch!

What would you tell someone who was thinking of moving to your town?
No need to shop around for houses in any other town - Downers Grove is the place to be. You will make life long friends here! I challenge you to just come drive around the neighborhoods, have breakfast, shop, go to lunch, get a slushy, stop in the book store, grab a drink, have dinner and you will be sure to fall in love with Downers Grove.
